Ian’s main areas of practice are criminal, civil litigation, real estate, employment law, municipal law, land valuation and expropriation.

Ian, a native of Toronto, was educated at the University of Toronto and then studied law having won a McKenzie King Traveling Scholarship to Oxford University in England. He completed his legal education at Dalhousie University in Halifax and then articled at Weir and Foulds, a prominent Bay Street law firm in Toronto. Upon being called to the Bar, he was a member of what was then the Metropolitan Toronto Legal Department for 6 years dealing extensively with land valuation, planning issues, expropriation, all aspects of civil litigation involving a municipality and criminal prosecutions and defence.

For two years, Ian was counsel litigation to the Royal Bank of Canada at its head office in Toronto dealing extensively with employment law, litigation involving the Royal Bank at all levels of the Court including corporate regulation and financing.

Ian then established his own law practice in Toronto dealing extensively with criminal and civil litigation and ultimately moved to North Bay to continue his practice in those areas, as well as adding real estate and employment law. Over the years he has conducted trials at every level of Court in the Province of Ontario up to and including the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

In addition to his legal activities, Ian was a founding director of the Elmer Iseler Singers of Canada and has been extensively involved in overseas activities and conferences in Africa and India.
