Prior to being Called to the Bar in 1985, he was a labour relations executive with the Ford Motor Company, in their Windsor and Oakville operations. He transferred these skills to Bay Street, as a labour and employment Partner with WeirFoulds. Joe entered the political arena when he was elected as a City of Barrie Councilor, which involved him moving to Barrie to establish his practice there. He then served twelve plus years as an MPP; including roles as Second Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Whole House and as a Parliamentary Assistant to the Solicitor General, Minister of Education and Minister of Consumer and Business Services.
